Tong Liu is an assistant professor at the Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He studies how reactive mineral interfaces form and transform, with particular attention to interfacial electron transfer, coupled Fe-C transformations, and their effects on contaminant mobility, organic carbon stabilization, and microbial activity.
His recent work examines photochemical cycling of iron minerals, microbially mediated redox processes, heavy metal stabilization, and pollution control in soils and groundwater. Related studies have been published in journals including Nature Communications and Water Research.
He received his bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering from China University of Geosciences (Beijing) in 2017 and his PhD in Environmental Science and Engineering from the same university in 2023 under the supervision of Prof. Chuanping Feng. From 2023 to 2025, he conducted postdoctoral research at Peking University with Prof. Anhuai Lu, and joined the Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences in 2025.
He maintains long-term collaborations with Prof. Chuanping Feng’s group at China University of Geosciences (Beijing) and Prof. Anhuai Lu’s group at Peking University on mineral-microbe interfaces, mineral photoelectrochemistry, environmental pollution control, and joint student training.
